How much does it cost to rent in Milan?
Prices vary widely depending on the area and the type of accommodation. As a guide, a single room costs between €600 and €900 per month, a posto letto (a bed in a shared twin room) between €400 and €550, and a studio flat between €950 and €1,400. Areas close to the M2 and M3 metro lines are the most in demand.

What do you need in order to rent?
You will usually need an ID document, a codice fiscale (Italian tax code), a security deposit (generally 2–3 months' rent) and sometimes a guarantor. We help you prepare everything, read the contract and register it correctly.

Renting in Milan: the most common questions
How much does a room for rent in Milan cost?
In 2026, a single room costs on average between €600 and €900 per month, a posto letto (a bed in a shared room) between €400 and €550, and a monolocale (studio flat) between €950 and €1,400. The price depends on the neighbourhood, the distance from the metro and whether bills are included.
How big a deposit do I have to pay?
The security deposit (deposito cauzionale) is usually equal to 2–3 months' rent and is returned at the end of the contract if the property is in good condition. By law it cannot exceed three months' rent.
Can I rent a place before I arrive in Italy?
Yes. We arrange video-call viewings, send you real photos and videos, and prepare the contract with a digital signature, so your home is ready and waiting when you arrive.
Do I need a codice fiscale to sign the contract?
Yes, the codice fiscale (Italian tax identification number) is required to register the contract with the Agenzia delle Entrate (the Italian Revenue Agency). If you don't have one yet, we'll explain how to get it quickly.
What type of contract do students sign?
For university students living away from home, the contratto transitorio per studenti (a temporary student lease from 6 to 36 months) is the most common option. Alternatively, there are 4+4 or 3+2 contracts at a canone concordato (agreed-upon rent). We'll help you choose the one that suits you best.
Are bills included in the rent?
It depends on the listing: on every property page we clearly state whether electricity, gas, heating, internet and building maintenance charges (spese condominiali) are included or not.
